DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Humbly Receive Your Mercy and Grace

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. When we gather in your presence for worship, we don’t do so to display our own righteousness, but to be reminded that by faith we have received yours. We don’t come before you to prove our worth, but to rejoice that you are our worthiness.

We approach you as beggars, humbly extending our hands to receive your mercy and grace. And you do not disappoint! You fill us up with good things – spiritual things, eternal things, priceless things – all of which sustain us daily and enrich and equip us as your ambassadors to the world. Rejuvenate and revitalize your people through Word and worship today. Draw them close to you and make them zealous to do your will.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For a Healthy Body Image

Lord God,
Your Word assures us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. While we marvel at the detail and design that went into creating mankind, the crown of your creation, we confess that we don’t always feel all that special. While women have traditionally struggled more with body image, men are not immune. Images of shirtless men sporting six packs or hitting the gym are widespread, and can leave those with dad bods discouraged and deflated. Lead guys to be realistic and reasonable about their physical appearances, and to be willing to share their struggles with others. Let us embrace taking care of our bodies as a natural part of our calling, and just one more way we can honor and thank you. Help us to view it as a privilege and not a pain, and let our worth be determined not by what we see in the mirror, but by remembering the price you were willing to pay to make us yours.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Value You as My Greatest Treasure

Jesus Christ,
No treasure I could acquire on earth would ever come close to what I have in you. Even if all the world’s wealth could be gathered up together in one place, the scale would still tip in your favor. Nothing in the world is as valuable and precious as what I have in you. By your holy, priceless, precious blood, you paid for my eternity, a purchase price that no currency or precious gem could ever match.

When you bought and paid for me and made me yours, you also gave me a new heart. Let that new heart now be forever attached to you as my greatest treasure. Do not let it be distracted or deceived by whatever would seek to pass itself off as more valuable. Keep my heart always close to you, treasuring you alone above all else.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Grasp How Much You Treasure Me

Precious Savior,
Occasionally, I struggle with my self-worth, my value, or even my place in this world. Sometimes these feelings come as the result of my own failings or perceived inadequacies, while other times they are rooted in the opinions or comments others make about me.

Rather than pretending I can ever really control or overcome such things, lead me instead to turn from them to the only successful and sustainable solution: remembering how valuable I am to you. Though you provide for every created thing under the sun, you yourself stated how much more valuable I am to you. Since you cannot lie, give me the trust and confidence to believe that you treasure me that much. Then, regardless of others’ opinions of me – or even my opinion of myself – I can rest at peace in your opinion of me, which carries more weight to me than all other opinions combined.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Live a Life Worthy and Pleasing to You

Perfect Savior,
We know that our worth before you isn’t earned or acquired through any effort of our own, which would never amount to anything of value. Instead, we find supreme comfort in knowing that our worth is based entirely on your perfect life, sacrificial death, and made certain through your triumphant resurrection. How can I ever question my worth before you when you paid such a price for me?!

In gratitude I now seek to measure up to the high worth you placed on me by giving up everything for me. Though I will never come close to it, let my whole life be a continual effort at offering a pleasing sacrifice to you. I want to be intentional about honoring you with my thoughts, words, and actions. And, since it is only through faith in you that you delight in me, increase my faith so that it flows into an abundance of holy living. You treasure me; let me also show through my whole life how much I treasure you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Discern Between Trash and Treasure

Loving Father,
You richly bless us with so many material blessings, but we forget how easily our hearts can treasure your gifts more than you, the Giver. Help me discern between trash and my true treasure – you – so that nothing would ever come between us now or for eternity. When I struggle to identify what those things might be in my life, direct me to a trustworthy and respected friend for help. Give me the humility to ask them if they notice any red flags or concerns that reflect any unhealthy attachment(s) to things or people in my life. Then, give me the humility to listen to what they may have to say, without defending or excusing anything, but simply taking it to heart for further personal evaluation. If anything or anyone appears to have a greater hold on my heart than you, Lord, give me the discipline to detach from it or discard it entirely. Let there be no shared space in my heart for anything else that would deceive me into allowing it to coexist alongside you, my greatest treasure.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Guard Me against Glory-Seeking

Dear Father,
We live in an age when the internet and social media have created more ways than ever for people to become popular. Sometimes that popularity is merited, based on impressive accomplishments that were achieved through dedication and hard work. Other times, though, it seems to happen for reasons beyond anyone’s explanation. Getting noticed for either of those reasons is neither good nor bad necessarily, but pride can quickly see that things take a turn for the worse.

I ask you to guard my heart from the desire to pursue popularity as a means of glory-seeking. There are noble pursuits to focus on which would serve the greater good in their own right, and then there are efforts simply to get known. Let me be so satisfied in being known and loved by you that I don’t need to crave the world’s validation or the glory that might come with it. Whatever glory the world can offer falls woefully short of the significance of belonging to you. Let that be more than enough for me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
