DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Keep on Learning

God of all Wisdom,
Give me the humility to keep on learning. When I feel overconfident in my own knowledge and am arrogant regarding my intellect, humble me. Show me how little I truly know and how much I have to learn.

In our world today, we are surrounded by unlimited information, virtually all of which is accessible in one way or another via the technology we carry around in our pockets. Give me discernment about what to learn, for there is no shortage of useless information, and not all learning edifies and builds up.

Fill me with childlike wonder over the pursuit of knowledge. And, as I learn, let there be for me no greater joy in the pursuit of knowledge than that which is truly the beginning of wisdom: the fear of the Lord.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Faith-Filled Wisdom

All-Knowing God,
Not only are we fearfully and wonderfully made, but you have also given us the intellectual capacity to continuously seek out and discover the extent of how marvelously you have designed us. Thank you for the gift of knowledge and wisdom, along with the desire to stretch ourselves in pursuit of it. Reward those who are willing to read and study great minds and thinkers because they value understanding and intellect

Ultimately, however, since wisdom without trust and faith in you will always be limited and lacking, I pray that everyone in pursuit of higher learning and greater intellect will eventually be led to you. While worldly wisdom is beneficial for mankind, it cannot reach beyond this life. That kind of wisdom comes only from faith and is granted only by your Spirit. When we have this kind of wisdom from the Word, it is a blessing both to us and to our fellowman when we practice it. Guide us then, both to acquire and to apply your wisdom.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Wisdom to Apply Your Word

Holy Spirit,
You are the source of enlightenment and wisdom. You attach blessings to both worldly wisdom and wisdom from your Word. While both are valuable, today I ask you to grant me wisdom in applying your Word. It is one thing to be familiar with your Word and to know your Word, but I ask that you increase in me the wisdom to apply your Word. When I see room to grow in my own life spiritually, it is seldom because I lack the knowledge of what to do or say in any given situation, but rather the wisdom to apply it.

The Bible promises blessing not just to those who hear the word, but who also put it into practice. And, while it is often the large scale feats of faith that are on my radar, make me wise to see and act on the many small scale acts of faith all around me on a daily basis. These are every bit as important in your eyes and also serve your people in meaningful ways. Grant me, Spirit, a rich measure of your wisdom so that I may continue to grow and develop in my life of sanctification.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Exercise My Christian Freedom Wisely

Precious Savior,
Guide me with your wisdom when living in my Christian freedom. Since you have made us saints by your grace through your blood, we are no longer slaves to the law. Since you kept the law perfectly in our place, it no longer terrifies or condemns us, but guides and directs us. We are free.

In my Christian freedom, however, I still need the Spirit’s wisdom when considering my words and actions. Help me to ask wise questions before exercising it. Is it beneficial, prudent, or profitable for my neighbor or me? Might the expression of my Christian freedom in a certain situation cause a fellow believer to stumble? Could the expression of my Christian freedom be a stumbling block hindering an unbeliever from giving attention to the gospel? Is it possible that the expression of my Christian freedom in one area of life could spill over into sin in another area? I am free, but help me use that freedom wisely in ways that serve and build up your church and honor and glorify you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Good Advice to Others

All-Knowing Lord,
Give me knowledge and wisdom when others seek counsel or advice from me. I want to be able to provide sound guidance that is a blessing. Help me to be a source of clarity for those who are confused and one who gives prudent direction to those unsure of what to do next. Since you are the source of all of these things, I come to you to ask that you dispense them generously for the sake of others. Then, when I pass along your counsel and others experience favorable results, provide me with the opportunity to acknowledge you before them, that they might learn to praise you and to seek your wisdom as well.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Wisdom

God of all wisdom,
Daily I am faced with numerous decisions to make. Some of those decisions do not carry much weight, while others do. Regardless, whether big or small, give me the wisdom to make wise decisions.

Funnel wisdom to me in many ways. Help me to take note of it in my reading. Let me recognize it when I hear it spoken through others. Lead me to retain it when I learn it through my own personal experiences. Surround me with wise people who are willing to share their knowledge and understanding with me, and give me the humility to listen. Then, as you equip me with wisdom, guide me to apply it at every opportunity.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Use Words Wisely

Spirit of Wisdom,
There is a time to listen and a time to speak, and I pray for the wisdom to know the difference. The wisdom of Proverbs and the warnings of James highlight the damage the tongue can do when words are spoken carelessly. In order to ensure that my speech honors you, blesses others, and upholds my reputation, make me quick to listen and slow to speak.

Keep my pride in check, for it desires to manipulate conversations and somehow make them about me. Fill me with the humility to hear others out before I insist on being heard. Give me ears that seek to understand. When I am quick to speak, may it be to ask questions that bring forth clarity in my assessment of a situation. Let thoughtfulness, charity, and wisdom accompany my words, so that my speech builds up others with courage and confidence, uplifts and comforts those who are hurting, and appropriately rebukes and admonishes those who are in the wrong. Use my ears and my lips to produce a harvest of righteousness in your kingdom.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Wisdom in Decision Making

Loving Lord,
Every day I have decisions to make, from simple choices that don’t really impact much else, to much weightier decisions that could affect not only me, but possibly many others. In every decision before me, I ask you to fill me with wisdom. Give me an undivided heart that seeks to bring every decision captive to your will. Help me to take into account the counsel of others while considering information and details that are reliable and true. Lead me to give thought to how others will be affected and which course of action will positively impact the most people. Keep my decisions from putting others at risk or in harm’s way. May all of my decisions glorify you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Seek the Wisdom of Others

Glorious God,
All true wisdom comes from you, the source of all that is good and true. May I never tire of seeking out the wisdom you provide in abundance through your Word. There is no greater wisdom!

Yet even in your wisdom, you surround us with those who can bless us with a their gifts of wisdom. I ask you to give me the wisdom to seek out the wise counsel of those you have placed in my life. Help me to know when to seek out wisdom from others, and to pursue the right people for the right advice at the right time. Guard me from arrogantly assuming I ever have all the answers, and keep me from dismissing the prudent guidance of others.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Wise Use of Our Freedom

Holy Counselor,
Since Jesus bought and paid for us with his precious blood, we are free – free from the fear of eternal death, free from the condemnation of sin, and free from slavery to Satan. We are free because we are yours.

Holy Spirit, guide us with your counsel to use that freedom wisely. Let Jesus’ selfless love direct our own hearts and minds, so that we speak and act not in the best interests of ourselves, but in the interests of others. Let me consider not simply what is permissible for me, but rather what is beneficial for my neighbor. As we combine our freedom in Christ with the spiritual wisdom you provide, our freedom is a blessing that builds others up rather than a burden that breaks them down. Grant me your wisdom, Counselor, so that my freedom might result in honor and glory for you, together with the Father and the Son.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
