To Make My Worry Work for Good

Providential Lord,
Don’t let our worry be wasted. Worry betrays our trust in you to care for us and provide for our every need. However, as you are able to work good in all things, I also pray that you help me take a win away from my worry. My worry reveals what I value. Since we don’t ever bother worrying about what is unimportant to us, when we do worry, it exposes potential idols in our hearts. Whenever I find myself worrying, in addition to turning to you in repentance for my lack of trust, let me also pay attention to the object of my worry, so that I may determine what good things are becoming god things in my life. When I identify them, let me replace them with what is most important: seeking your kingdom and righteousness above all else. When this is my priority, I worry less and less and see more and more how you keep your promise of providing for my daily bread.

For Those Caring for Others with Special Needs in Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. Sundays are also for everyone. Nevertheless, worship can be especially challenging for those responsible for caring for others with special needs. Give parents a special measure of patience and determination as they worship with their little ones who require extra attention. Help caregivers responsible for adults with special needs remain calm and composed in the face of any unpredictable outbursts or challenging behavior. Make fellow worshipers willing to step in and offer assistance in these situations in any way possible. Richly bless the faithful perseverance of dedicated believers who are committed to bringing these special saints to hear the voice of their Good Shepherd.

To Provide Care for Those Unable to Provide It for Themselves

Gracious Father,
Come to the aid of those struggling to care for themselves. Extend your loving providence to those unable to function independently, whether mentally or physically. Do not allow them to be overlooked, neglected, or forgotten by society. Regardless of what led to their current status and situation, provide family members or other caregivers to meet their needs. Make the necessary means and resources available to them so they lack nothing. Bless those who provide such care to those in need, and move those on the receiving end of their care to express gratitude and thanks both to their caregivers and to you, the gracious Provider of all.

For Faith-Filled Elders

Shepherd of Souls,
Look with favor on the important work of elders in their congregations. Provide churches with faith-filled elders who are eager to serve you and their fellow believers. As they work together with your pastors and undershepherds, make their spiritual care a blessing to all of the sheep of your flock. Ensure that they are well-trained and equipped for their work. Make them bold and faithful to carry out their responsibilities. Establish effective channels of accountability between pastors, elders, and members, so that support and encouragement are readily available. Through their joint efforts, as they teach, rebuke, correct, and train in your Word with your people, foster robust spiritual growth in your churches everywhere.

For Those Who Help Us Bear Our Burdens

Compassionate Savior,
It is an unavoidable reality that this side of heaven, we will all have burdens to bear. But, you also give us an unshakeable promise that we will never bear any burden alone. You will not abandon us. You will not forsake us. You will not leave us on our own for even a second. While that would be enough, your care and compassion go even further, for you place others in our lives to bear our burdens along side us. It may be another set of ears to listen while we unpack our struggles. It may be eyes to help us see the next step. It might be solutions to enable us to lighten the load. It might be prayers, words of encouragement, or simply being present when we’re weighed down the most. Thank you, Lord, for providing these fellow burden bearers in my life. Make me willing to be the same for others when they need it.

For Those Alone or Isolated

Faithful Friend of Saints,
Our society has conditioned itself to leave well enough alone and to mind one’s own business. That reality, coupled with the deception that AI can replace real relationships with real people, means we really shouldn’t be surprised that many are isolated and lonely. What else shouldn’t surprise anyone is how willing believers are to check in on others and reach out to those who may be at risk or have a limited circle of friends or family members for support. Make us mindful of those who may be susceptible to being overlooked or neglected. Move us to pray for them by name and to text, call, or visit them periodically to let them know someone cares about them – and to remind them that you will never stop caring about them.

To Extend Hospitality to Others

Friend of Sinners,
In our rushed, always-on-the-go lives, failing to slow down isn’t just unhealthy for us; it also affects our neighbor negatively – not necessarily by what we do, but by what we leave undone. Constant busyness and scrambling to keep up with stacked schedules leaves precious little time for hospitality. We easily overlook and neglect our neighbor’s needs when we allow little or no margin in our lives. Sometimes we even justify avoiding others on the basis of our busyness. Help us pause and ponder. Make us aware of those you’ve placed before us to whom we can show kindness, welcoming them into our lives with genuine friendliness and hospitable hearts. As we share our blessings and belongings with others whenever the chances arise, we show them how valued they are as we put love into action.

To Remember Those Dealing with Disabilities

Compassionate Lord,
In your loving care, provide protection and pathways for those dealing with any sort of physical limitations. We gratefully acknowledge the many advancements that exist today to aid people dealing with disabilities, and celebrate the doors that have been opened as a result. Nevertheless, these blessings are not available to everyone everywhere. And, even where they are available, real daily struggles still present challenges for so many. Help us, in Christian love, to strike a balance between respecting independence and offering care and assistance when possible. Grant us understanding minds and compassionate hearts, so that we are always looking out for our neighbors in need, and make us willing to befriend and bless them accordingly. In turn, use their resiliency, resolve, and determination to inspire and encourage others, being a blessing to them as well.

For Those You’ve Used to Help Me

Caring Father,
It’s so easy for us to forget or overlook the ways you have used others throughout our lives to help us along the way. No one gets to where they are in life without the aid and assistance of others. You provide others to be there to help us learn and show us how to do certain things. You give others listening ears to walk us through problems. Some have been instrumental in connecting us with other people who have been a blessing to us. Many have prayed for us more than we’ll ever know. Thank you for placing considerate and helpful individuals in my life to guide and support me in such meaningful ways. You have used them to lead me to experience how much you truly care about me.

For Godparents to Be a Blessing to Their Godchildren

Lord of the Church,
Godly godparents may be some of the most under-appreciated gifts you give believers. Christian parents may not always take advantage of the blessed tradition of choosing godparents, or they may not give much prayerful deliberation to their choice if they do. Godparents, too, may overlook or neglect their important roles. Nevertheless, guide your church to retain this practice, to expand its awareness, and to heighten its importance. Your little baptized saints growing up in the world today are in as much need of prayer and spiritual care as ever. Place godchildren on the hearts of their godparents regularly. Direct them to your throne of grace on their behalf, and lead them to welcome and embrace the role of helping disciple their godchildren in every way possible.
