To Bless My Workplace

Dear Lord,
Look with favor on my workplace. Thank you for the employment opportunity for my coworkers and me. Through it, you provide us with an income that allows us to care for ourselves and our families. Equip us to carry out our work well, resulting in quality products and services. Uphold my employer’s reputation so that our name is respected in our industry or field. Give the owners and managers strong leadership abilities and valuable interpersonal skills, which foster a healthy work environment and drive employees to be eager and dedicated as a team to carry out their work together. Fill us with a sense of satisfaction and pride in what we produce or build, and let what we do remain necessary and important work by which we serve and provide for others.

To Be Grateful for My Job

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the blessing of employment. We are far too comfortable complaining about our jobs and not grateful enough for having them. Though you provide for our daily bread through many channels, work is one of the primary means by which you allow us to care for our family. Work also provides an outlet for us to contribute to something bigger than ourselves and to put our gifts to use in service to others. Give us the patience to work under overbearing bosses and alongside challenging coworkers. Help us see that work carried out to your glory is never in vain. Drive us to give our best, not to impress others, but because in all things we aim to serve you – even in the workplace. Where permitted, let me make you known by speaking freely and frequently about you; where not, let how I conduct myself and the way I treat others stand out. In all things in the workplace, may I bring you glory and represent you well.

For Dealing with Difficult Coworkers

Dear Savior,
Ever since the Fall, sin has tainted your blessing of work. Even when we are fortunate enough to be able to do what we love and are skilled at, still there are frustrations in even the most ideal situations. Sometimes those challenges stem from the responsibilities of work itself; other times our struggles have more to do with people. 

When faced with the issue of difficult coworkers, help me to navigate the tension that can exist between my own morality and ethics, which are established and guided by your Word, and a different moral compass by which the world and secular workplace often operate. Let me speak up when I see conduct that is not condoned or endorsed by my place of employment, since I have a responsibility to uphold the name and reputation of my workplace. When lazy coworkers take advantage of the strong work ethic of others by unfairly assigning them heavier workloads, bless the solid coworkers and rebuke and correct the lazy ones. When coworkers refuse to honor appropriate boundaries with others, let it be known and addressed. When/if I come under fire for my faith, let me stand firm and let my light shine as I am able to in keeping with the established policies. When I am feeling overwhelmed by the burden of difficult coworkers, give me the peace of mind and heart in remembering that I am working first and foremost for you above all else.
