DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Have Compassion for Others

Caring Savior,
When our own personal lives are filled with so many stories of those who are struggling and suffering, we can easily become cynical. We tune out others and their problems because we have enough of our own to focus on. Over time, unchecked cynical attitudes can turn downright calloused toward others.

Keep me from that extreme. Place me back among the crowds who followed you while you walked the earth, those who chased after you with all of their hurts and needs. That way, I can see clearly what compassion and care look like when perfectly carried out. You took time for others. You met their needs. You always cared, and you still do – for others, for me, for everyone. Move me to demonstrate the same genuine care and compassion for others.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Care for Called Workers

Good Lord,
When you send called workers into your mission field, you send them with the promise of your providence. Lead them to trust that promise and open their eyes to the many ways you keep it. There is no greater need they have than for their faith to be nurtured and strengthened. Do not allow them to neglect their own spiritual care while focusing their attention on the care of souls you’ve entrusted to them.

Meet all of their physical needs as well, so they can focus on ministry without the burden of being able to make ends meet. Where congregations struggle to provide the necessary care to adequately support their called workers, lead them to faithfully and diligently pursue all options to address whatever is lacking. If that means helping them grow in the grace of giving, help them grow. If that means being open to the possibility of merging ministry with another congregation or school, make them willing to give all options their consideration. In every way possible, move your people to embrace the privilege and joy of caring for their called workers with the same spirit as if they were caring for you, Lord.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Genuine Compassion Toward Others

Compassionate Savior,
I will never be far from someone who is grieving, hurting, or in need. You even assured the disciples that they would always have the poor around them. I simply don’t have to look very hard at all to see people struggling.

This prevalence of pain that others are experiencing can cause me to become desensitized or indifferent to their plight. Because it is such a common part of the human experience to hurt or be in need, even if not intentionally, I can easily tune out the tribulations of others as I go about my daily business.

Forgive me for my self-absorption and lack of compassion. Don’t allow me to become so preoccupied with my own schedule and responsibilities that I don’t acknowledge or give thought to the distress others are experiencing. Let me follow through with my promises of prayer, not treating them like a checklist that I can complete, but as powerful petitions that can channel real change for those in need. Increase my own capacity for compassion, so that my care and concern for others might more often flow into expressions of charity.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Love My Brothers in Christ

Lord Jesus,
In a world that is all too happy to tear down, use me to build others up. I know many brothers in the faith are struggling silently. While they may not be willing to speak up, give me the courage to check in on them by being willing to go deeper than just surface-level exchanges. Prompt me to ask thoughtful questions that open doors to more meaningful conversations. Let my words and body language clearly communicate that I am not seeking to judge or belittle them, but to listen, support, and encourage in any way I can.

So many battles are lost because of isolation and loneliness. Give me the social awareness to be able to identify when my brothers in Christ might be at risk. Make me bold to take the lead in normalizing this behavior, so that others may follow my example and such care and concern among brothers can become a much more common blessing.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Care for My Parents

Perfect Father,
While I may not live under their roof anymore, the Fourth Commandment still applies, so I want to honor my parents. While no parents are perfect, mine helped shape me into who I am today, so good, bad, or otherwise, I am thankful for them. I can always do a better job of communicating with them. Help me prioritize them so they never feel that I am too busy for them or don’t have any time for them.

Give patience and perseverance to all taking on the responsibility of caregivers for their parents in any capacity. Let their help and support be a blessing and not a burden for them. Lead them to view their responsibilities to their parents as a joyful opportunity to thank them for the years of love and support they provided throughout childhood up to the present day. Let my gratitude for my parents be expressed to them in such ways that they know how loved and appreciated they are.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Befriend Others

Friend of Sinners,
Friendship is exactly what many need. While it is true that we always have a friend in you, you have also created us with a need to connect with other human beings. I am grateful for all the friendships you have blessed me with in my life, but I am also aware that there are many who are not able even to name a close friend. Help me keep my eyes opened for such individuals, and where possible, help me befriend them. Let me be ears to listen to them and allow me opportunities to show love and concern, so that in seeing my care for them, they may also come to know and appreciate how much greater your care for them is, and to know that they always have a friend in you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Care for Caregivers

Dear Lord,
Thank you for all of those who serve as caregivers. Many serve in that capacity because it is a path they willfully chose, while others find themselves as caregivers reluctantly or unwillingly, but out of necessity. Regardless of the circumstances that put them in the position of caregiver, their work can be draining both physically and emotionally. Keep bitterness or resentment from taking root in their hearts as they carry out their service. While consumed with the concerns of caring for others, it can be easy to neglect their own self-care.

Surround caregivers with those who care enough about them to look out for their interests. Use them to speak reassuring words of encouragement when they are depleted. Uplift them and strengthen them for their work. Grant them the joys of seeing the fruit of their labor. Let their sacrificial work on behalf of others deepen both their awareness and appreciation of the many ways you sacrificially served others throughout your own life and ministry.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Providing Daily Bread

Caring Father,
You watch over and provide the necessities of life for all of creation, including mankind, the crown of creation, in so many ways. By design you use parents to meet the needs of children as they are raised and grow up in the home. In many situations where parents aren’t or cannot be present, you provide grandparents to step in and carry out those responsibilities. You also work through many social services to care for children and adults alike in special circumstances or with special needs that require additional care and attention. For seniors, a demographic often overlooked and neglected by many in society, assisted living facilities offer the added services to supply what is needed in the later stages of life. Thank you for these many ways you lovingly provide daily bread for over eight billion people in the world.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Check In With Others

Lord God,
As guys, we tend to prioritize problem-solving and getting things done. When others share with us the challenges going on in their lives, we focus on fixing things and making them right. This can be a great blessing to others when they come to us looking for that kind of help.

What isn’t always natural for us is to think about others, take the initiative, and check in with them to see how they’re doing. We tend to keep to ourselves and give our attention to projects more than people. It isn’t that we don’t care about others; it just doesn’t occur to us to touch base with them regularly.

Help me to be more mindful of that. I know there are people you’ve placed in my life who are going through new or challenging seasons in their own lives. Prompt me to call or text them more frequently, not necessarily to see what might need fixing, but simply to let them know they are cared for and supported. Regular check-ins like this can help combat the isolation and loneliness that others may be experiencing. And, the benefits go both ways, as you often use others to bless us unexpectedly through these meaningful interactions, too.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Be Aware of Those Hurting During the Holidays

Compassionate Savior,
The weeks ahead will be filled with busy activities in homes, at schools, and in the workplace. While these events are generally a source of warmth and happiness as we gather and socialize, this time of year can also be painful for many.

Memories from past painful events that took place during this time of year can resurface and dull the delight of those affected by them. Hearts are made heavy by the remembrance of loved ones who passed away during this season, no matter how long ago. Current career stress and end of the year job responsibilities can also factor into the frustration many experience.

Enable me to be aware of the hurts of others during the holidays. Grant me sensitivity to engage meaningfully with those who are struggling, so that I am able to provide them with needed support and hope. Make me a bright spot when they feel surrounded by darkness. Through my compassion, help them catch a glimpse of yours, so that they may know how much they are cared for.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
