DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Pentecost

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. On this particular Sunday, many Christian churches are celebrating the Day of Pentecost. On that day, as prophesied in the Old Testament, you showered your saints with the Spirit, poured out in a stunning, miraculous display experienced by all who were present. But the greatest miracle was not the sound of rushing wind. It wasn’t the appearance of what looked like tongue-shaped flames of fire on everyone’s heads. The greatest miracle was not even that people of all different languages understood what was being said. No, the greatest miracle was – and always is – that your Spirit turns stone-cold unbelieving hearts into believing hearts of faith, burning with the confidence of the gospel and the desire to make it known. Pour out your Spirit on your Church today and always, so that as we carry out her work with your Word, you continue to work your mighty miracle of faith in many.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Courage to Correct When Necessary

Spirit of Truth,
Give me the courage to speak up to brothers in the faith who need to be called out or rebuked for one reason or another. Whether they are stuck in sin, settling for worldly satisfactions, or lacking the desire or discipline to pursue you more deeply and faithfully, make me bold to speak up. When I am ready to say something, ensure that my heart and my attitude are grounded in pure motives and a longing for what is best for my brother(s). Break down any barriers that would hinder others from listening to correction, and use these challenging situations to foster healthy spiritual growth all around. And, when others have the courage to correct or admonish me when I need it, quiet my own stubborn spirit so that I receive it properly and take it to heart. Cause me to be grateful that you have placed godly, mature Christian men in my life who care enough to correct me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Cherish My Baptism

Gracious Father,
My baptism isn’t just an empty church ritual that happened to me some time ago in the past; rather, it is who I am. I am a baptized member of your family, adopted into an inheritance that will never perish, spoil, or fade. Therefore, my identity and sense of worth are not based on my successes or failures, but on all of the generous, gracious promises laid out for me in your Word. So, rather than ruminating on past regret or fixating on the future anxiously, I can always be at peace in the present, for my baptism assures me of where I stand before you: forgiven and treasured. By your Spirit, empower me today and every day to live confidently in my baptismal grace and to boldly walk in your steps, so that I reflect for others the joy of belonging to you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Mental Health

Wonderful Counselor,
The month of May is recognized by many as a time to bring awareness to mental health. What a wonderful reminder that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in body, mind, and spirit! As the crown of your creation, you created mankind in such a unique way, so that our physical, mental, and spiritual health are all interconnected. When any one area suffers, the others are affected. We thank you therefore, for those with expertise in mental health who desire to help others in this area. Bless them with knowledge and insight regarding how the amazing minds you’ve given us allow us to think and process, and how connected our thoughts are to our actions and general well-being. Since a secular approach to mental health will naturally lack the all-important connection to spiritual health, provide that awareness through solid spiritual leaders who are well-equipped to point people to your powerful promises. Then, Lord, use those gracious promises to provide a rock-solid foundation for many as the basis for resilient mental health.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Be Your Witness

Savior of All,
It isn’t complicated. I know my salvation. Countless others do not. Make me a witness. Present me with opportunities to point others to Jesus that are so undeniable and unavoidable that I absolutely cannot help but speak up, no matter how timid I might otherwise be. Then, open my mouth! Send your Spirit to cover me with courage, confidence, compassion, and clarity, so that I both honor you in how I make you known and pave the path by which your Spirit may allow the seeds of faith to germinate. Afterward, cause my heart to soar, not merely based on the outcome or results, which you alone are responsible for, but simply at the privilege of getting to make you known! Let such experiences continually kindle in me an increasing desire to be eager to evangelize.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Uplift and Encourage Others at Church

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. Since I am always uplifted and encouraged by your Word in worship, I pray this morning that you also use me to encourage and uplift others. Spur me on to step outside of my normal circle of friends to meet and greet someone new. Let my lips be filled with complementary words of kindness. While I don’t know the details of all the stress and strain your people bring with them into your house each week, I can remind them of the peace you came to bring that surpasses their every trouble. When worshippers leave your house this morning, let them do so not only filled up with your Spirit, but also cheered on by their fellow believers, including me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Replace My Stress With Trust

Loving Father,
When I look at the week ahead and feel overwhelmed by responsibilities and pressing deadlines, remind me not to worry, as each day has enough trouble of its own. The pressure I feel stems from falling into the trap of thinking I’m the one in control, and forgetting that you oversee all things and promise to work them all out for my good. Relieve me of my stress by increasing my trust in that promise. Help me align your spiritual truths with my day and week. Do not let me believe the lie that I have too much to do that I don’t have time for your Word; instead, direct me to prioritize it, so that your Spirit can still my soul and carry me through this week.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Live a Holy Life in Step With the Spirit

Holy Father,
When my life doesn’t reflect the holy life you have set me apart to live, it isn’t because I am unaware of what that should look like. And, it isn’t because you have failed to keep your promises to fill me with your overflowing grace that enables me to walk in step with the Spirit. Rather, my own lack of discipline and spiritual apathy work like quicksand to suck me into worldly living. And while it is often easier to walk in step with the world, the outcome is disappointing at best, and destructive at worst. Have mercy on me! Spur on the new man in me to consider each day what living righteously in my life looks like. Give me the determination to make the choices, speak the words, and take the actions that are in keeping with holiness.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Accountability and Encouragement

Lord God,
Your Spirit works in me the desire to do your will. My inability to follow through or carry out your will is my fault alone. Give me the humility to seek out a friend and brother in the faith to aid me in my walk, and to provide me with accountability and correction. Where my desire falls short or my discipline is lacking, use this individual to speak the truth in love to me. Establish a trust between us that allows him to tell me what I need to hear, no matter how difficult it may be, and give me the spiritual maturity to receive and accept his admonishment as it is intended: for my good. For such a relationship to bear fruit, I need to be honest and transparent with him. Give me the courage to consider and seek out someone who could serve in this way and bless each of us through this bond.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Lead Others Spiritually

Faithful Father,
You have made us your disciples by your grace, through your Word. Discipleship includes continuing to personally grow in that grace through your Word. And, as men, our discipleship also includes leading our wives and families in their growth, too. I have so much room to grow! Guide and direct me first and foremost to grow in my own personal faith, so that as I do, I am better equipped to lead others. Since discipling includes discipline, grant me the motivation and discipline to prioritize my spiritual leadership. Dispel my fears with faith, and fill me with the Spirit’s zeal and confidence to embrace my call to lead. Where I see my own shortcomings, help me see your strength. Where I see my inadequacy, help me see your infallibility. Build others up through me so that we all may boast more in you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
