DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Love and Care for My Body and Life

Loving Father,
While I acknowledge that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, I must confess that I do not always reflect that in how I take care of – or rather neglect – my body. Indeed, if the attention and care I give to my physical health serve to indicate how much I value my body and life, I am embarrassed to admit the conclusion anyone would have to draw. I am sorry. Forgive me.

Thankfully, that is exactly what you do: forgive me. I do not live under shame or guilt, but under grace. You do not delight in finding fault, but in forgiving. The new life you daily call me to live in through my baptism is not merely spiritual, but flows into the blessing of physical as well. Since you redeemed not just my soul, but my body as well, steer me away from viewing it pessimistically or speaking of it pejoratively, and elevate how I view my own body. Whatever size and shape it is, help me to embrace and love it as you do – a gift to be cared for. Instill in me a healthy mindset that celebrates progress over perfection regarding exercise, working out, and anything that seeks to avoid being overly sedentary. Thank you for my body and life, and for the godly desire to treasure and care for them.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Rely on Grace Plus Nothing

Loving Redeemer,
Your Word clearly teaches that we are not saved by works, but by grace, through faith. Although we know and believe that, we can so easily slip right back into our own self-righteousness. We cannot rid ourselves of that part of us that yearns to make our salvation a combination of grace PLUS something – anything – on our part. But if salvation is by grace AND anything else, then we are robbed of the certainty of our salvation! Our best efforts bring us no closer to salvation than the most vile deeds of the unbeliever. The work of salvation is yours alone. Give me a faith that clings to that truth, rejoices in it, and finds peace in it.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Righteous Living

Loving Redeemer,
You have revealed to us that our salvation is your work from start to finish, and that it cannot be earned, but only received as a gift through faith in you. At the same time, how we live matters and makes a difference. You call us to pursue goodness and righteousness, not because they contribute to our salvation, but because they naturally flow from it. Being saved by grace doesn’t prompt us to brush off sin because we know it’s forgiven; rather, it drives us to despise sin and put off the deeds of darkness. We know believers are supposed to stand out and apart from the world, but our outward behavior won’t change until you change us from the inside out, molding our hearts to mimic your own. Let your Spirit generate a deep desire in us that genuinely craves righteousness and is eager to honor you and serve others with good works and righteous living.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
