For the Freedom to Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. As our nation continues to celebrate 250 years of freedom, the opportunity to gather freely for Sunday morning worship is still appreciated by believers as one of the most blessed privileges we have. We recognize and lament that such a privilege does not belong to your Church everywhere in the world. While we pray for the protection of Christians worshiping in hostile nations, let us not give up meeting together; let us not rob ourselves of the Spirit’s work of strengthening our faith and centering it more on Christ. May the freedom we have in Christ prompt us to steward well the freedom we have as citizens of the United States, taking advantage of those freedoms to advance your kingdom and to love and serve others in need. 

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

To Protect the Unborn

Loving Father,
The subject of abortion serves as a tragic reminder that this dying world is a far cry from the deathless creation you first brought into existence by the breath of your life. No matter the rationale behind it, anytime an abortion takes place, a child never receives the opportunity to take that first breath, and because of that, we grieve. We plead for your protection on behalf of babies in the womb who are unable to defend themselves. Surround those considering abortion with caring and compassionate counsel from others who want what is best for mother and child according to your Word. Lead expecting mothers to treasure your gift of life and grant them the fortitude to make sacrifices for the benefit of their unborn child. Compel fathers to be present and responsible, and use them to speak as a voice in favor of life. Spare those in the womb, Lord, and thwart the plans of all who promote the option of putting the unborn to death.  

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

For Those Who Protect and Serve

Strong Father,
Watch over all those whose work includes putting themselves in harm’s way to protect and serve others. Whether at the local or national level, at home or abroad, guard and keep them as they dutifully fulfill their responsibilities. See that they are well-trained and that adequate oversight ensures that their training is carried out properly, both for their own good and for the safety of those entrusted to their protection. Keep them humble and obedient to those over them, so they would not give in to any temptation to consider themselves above the very law they are charged with enforcing. Prevent all efforts to undermine or interfere with their work, which might cause injury or harm to them or to others. May they feel supported in their line of work, be blessed to see the positive impact it has, and be encouraged by the difference it makes in the lives of those they serve.

To Extinguish the Wildfires

Almighty God,
Wildfires continue to burn around Southern California, leaving little more than embers and ash where homes and buildings used to stand. As the Lord who brought all of creation into existence with your mighty word, you also govern and direct all of nature. I boldly pray that you use whatever means necessary to bring the burning under control and extinguish the fires as swiftly as possible. Allow all who are still in the wildfires’ paths to safely evacuate and spare the loss of any more lives. 

Guard and protect all who are battling the flames, and provide them with access to every resource needed to carry out their work effectively. Still the winds and grant firefighters favorable conditions as they put their lives on the line. Give wisdom, discernment, and clear communication skills to those overseeing all firefighting and rescue efforts. 

While it appears to many that devastation and chaos are in control, through your clear intervention in this disaster, make it known that you are and always will be the one with all power and authority, reigning over all things and directing them for both your temporal and eternal purposes.

To Protect Those Traveling

Mighty God,
Many will be traveling over the course of this weekend and next week. While we enjoy the blessings of being able to travel so efficiently and in so many ways, along with these blessings come additional dangers and risks. Many are on the roads and in the air delivering packages and goods. Keep them safe as they navigate through traffic. Grant adequate rest and sharp focus to pilots as they fly passengers to and from their destinations. Give extra patience to ride share drivers as they experience an increase in requests. Help those driving their own vehicles and family members to stay alert and be cautious on the roads, especially wherever harsh weather presents challenging conditions. Send your guardian angels to diligently watch over and protect all travelers, to guard families against having to mourn tragedy this time of year rather than celebrating your birth.

For Protection

Dear Lord,
Thank you for the countless ways you protect me each and every day. You vigilantly watch over me all day long, constantly guarding and protecting me from dangers and threats of which I am not even aware. You protect me not just from physical harm, but spiritual harm as well, using your angels as bodyguards to keep the evil one in check.

Guide me to make wise decisions today and always, so that I don’t willingly or intentionally put myself in harm’s way. However, even when I do, protect me from my own foolishness and spare me from the consequences of putting myself at risk. Use me also to keep a watchful eye on others, so that I am alert and ready to do whatever is in my power to keep them safe, too. 

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

For Protection

Good Shepherd,
We know all too well that as we walk through this valley of the shadow of death, dangers threaten us around the clock. Yet we do not need to be afraid, because we are confident that you do not waver in your promise to guard and protect us. We thank you for the many safeguards you have placed in our lives like medicine, technology, policies, and people who protect us. You use these measures in so many different ways to keep us from harm. We could hardly fathom the unknown dangers of each day that we never even experience because you keep them from us! Thank you, Good Shepherd, for your vigilant protection.
