DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Be More Patient With Myself

Patient Lord,
The life of a believer is a life of patience. Ever since the Fall in Eden, your people have waited on the perfect timing of your promises. Yet our patience runs so thin, not just with others, but also with ourselves. Even when we struggle with patience for others, we will know how necessary it is, but we don’t always allow ourselves the same latitude. We get frustrated with ourselves when we repeat the same mistakes, when we forget things we should have remembered, and when we don’t make progress in an area of our lives as quickly as we’d like. Help us, Lord, not just to be patient with others, but also with ourselves. Let us not be so hasty to beat ourselves up over shortcomings. Lead us to give ourselves grace – since you already have! We aren’t perfect, but we have a Savior who is. If you are patient with us (and have every right not to be!), then enable us to be more patient with ourselves as you grow us.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Dream and to Do

Dear Lord,
You created us with a unique capacity to envision what could be and to imagine possibilities. We are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made in these ways and so many others, for which we are extremely grateful. Nevertheless, without any action, dreams never take shape and become reality. Therefore, make me also a man of action, someone with the self-discipline not just to dream, but to do. Guide me with the discernment to balance between being overly cautious in preparation, resulting in unnecessarily long delays, and being too hasty to rush into action without enough preparation. Keep me from being frozen by indecision and give me a willingness to fail forward, confident that corrections and adjustments are always a part of progress.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Take Action

Lord God,
There is a time for pondering, a time for planning, and a time for preparing. As important as each of these steps are, keep me from getting so wrapped up in them that I fail to take action. Too often I overthink instead of taking action. Too often I expect to fine-tune the plan until it’s perfect. Since it never is, I get stuck in the realm of inactivity. And, sometimes it is simply my own indecisiveness or procrastination that hinders my action.

Push me to be more deliberate about taking action. Even wrong or misguided actions allow for adjustments or corrections to be made, which ultimately result in greater progress than simply doing nothing. Make me bold to fail forward instead of failing flat-footed because I refused to act. Since in Jesus we already have our perfection, we don’t need to be perfectionists; we can celebrate progress. Since progress requires action, move me to take it more often.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
