DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Spouses to Feel Loved

Loving Lord,
Since people express love and feel love in different ways, we should expect the same to be true in marriage. The way husbands and wives communicate their love for each other varies. Help them to explore and discover this about each other. When one spouse feels loved one way, that doesn’t mean the other experiences love in the same way. One desires to spend time together doing anything at all, another cherishes thoughtful gifts. Others long to care for or be cared for, build up with words, or hug and hold hands. Sometimes this variety can be frustrating when a spouse expresses love in one way, but it isn’t received as such by the other. Instead of frustration, Lord, make spouses continually curious, searching together for all the wonderful ways to make sure their partner feels exceedingly loved.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Bless and Equip Parents

Loving Father,
When you bless a husband and wife with a child, you provide them with a special gift. Children bring a richness into marriage that simply cannot be experienced in any other way. Yet even as we thank you for these treasures, we acknowledge the added challenges and frustrations parents experience in raising them. Bless fathers and mothers with a unified approach in parenting styles. As they train their children together, help them always view each other as allies, not competitors or even enemies. When they carry out discipline, grant them patience and resolve, and an evangelically firm spirit. Ensure that they do not neglect the spiritual, emotional, or physical health of their children, but rather raise them to see the important and interconnected role that each of these plays in the overall well-being of their young ones. Let children experience a depth of grace and forgiveness in how their parents interact with each other and how they treat their kids. See that God’s Word dwells richly in the home, so that as children see and know their Savior’s love, they then grasp the blessing of gratefully carrying out joyful obedience.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Love and Care for My Body and Life

Loving Father,
While I acknowledge that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, I must confess that I do not always reflect that in how I take care of – or rather neglect – my body. Indeed, if the attention and care I give to my physical health serve to indicate how much I value my body and life, I am embarrassed to admit the conclusion anyone would have to draw. I am sorry. Forgive me.

Thankfully, that is exactly what you do: forgive me. I do not live under shame or guilt, but under grace. You do not delight in finding fault, but in forgiving. The new life you daily call me to live in through my baptism is not merely spiritual, but flows into the blessing of physical as well. Since you redeemed not just my soul, but my body as well, steer me away from viewing it pessimistically or speaking of it pejoratively, and elevate how I view my own body. Whatever size and shape it is, help me to embrace and love it as you do – a gift to be cared for. Instill in me a healthy mindset that celebrates progress over perfection regarding exercise, working out, and anything that seeks to avoid being overly sedentary. Thank you for my body and life, and for the godly desire to treasure and care for them.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

Thank You for Meeting Our Physical Needs

Giving Father,
Thank you for the way you go above and beyond to generously provide for our material needs. For everything we perceive to be lacking or going without, our storage and closets are overflowing with other belongings that surpass what we can even keep track of. Work in us feelings of gratitude so that we do not take for granted how richly you provide for us. Make us aware of how much we have and make us willing to share it with others in need. Grant us contentment with our daily bread, so that greed does not drive us to pursue more or that a lack of appreciation for what we have does not drive us to despair. Guard our hearts to keep our possessions from possessing us, help us to care for what you have entrusted to us, and lead us to help preserve and protect our neighbors’ belongings as well. Thank you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Acknowledge Your Generosity (Part 3)

Generous Father,
You are a Giver – and a generous one at that! Your generosity is clearly seen through the abundant physical and spiritual blessings you shower on us. You are truly good and kind to us!

Your goodness and generosity are highlighted not only by who you are, but also by who we are. We know full well what our unrighteousness and disobedience deserve from you, yet you chose to direct the punishment we deserved on your own holy Son. You haven’t treated us as outcasts or orphans, but have adopted us as your heirs. We are so undeserving, yet you treat us like royalty. We are so unworthy, yet you call us your treasured possessions. Lead us to always deeply appreciate your generosity, not only because you give so much, but also because we are deserving of so little.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Acknowledge Your Generosity (Part 1)

Generous Father,
There is no better example than yours when it comes to demonstrating generosity. I don’t know this only because it’s how you reveal yourself in the Bible; I know it also from personal experience. When I consider the size and scale of all that you provide me with physically, it is clear that you are no miser! Closets that are hardly large enough to hold all of our clothes, multiple fridges and/or freezers, packed pantries, and garages or extra rooms that store away bins upon bins of belongings all serve as testaments of your generosity.

When it comes to shopping for everything we need (to say nothing of what we want!), there are countless brick and mortar stores, matched by a myriad of online stores. We know the frustration of indecision when it comes to having so many options for eating out (or having it delivered right to our door and eating in!). You are unbelievably generous, Lord, and I ask that you never allow me to take your generosity for granted. And, I also ask that you equip me with the wisdom to rightly use and manage all that you abundantly provide.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
