For Meekness
Submissive Savior,
In perfect meekness, you yielded submissively to the will of our Father. In your Sermon on the Mount, you proclaimed blessings for those who are meek, teaching that they will inherit the earth. Since your gracious love for me compels me to be all that you want me to be, make me meek. Those who ask you for a meek spirit are already demonstrating a measure of meekness simply by yielding to you and desiring what you would have us desire.
Since the world exalts those who demonstrate the drive, ambition, and assertiveness to get what they want at all costs, it is no surprise that meekness is not a quality the world regards highly. Yet those who are meek are not weak, for it is your will that they seek. Grant me the submissive spirit of meekness that puts your ways first. Let me also demonstrate the patient endurance associated with meekness, because my confidence does not rest in what I might receive in this life, on this side of heaven, but rather in what is waiting for me when you return.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
