For Artistic Gifts in Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. When we worship in your house, we see so much that draws the eyes of our hearts to you. Thank you for the gifts of creative vision combined with faith that you have granted to so many to edify us in worship. As the sun’s rays are filtered through palettes of stained glass, the colorful patterns evoke beauty and awe as our gaze is turned upward to ponder how you shine so brightly in our lives. Banners teach us while touching our hearts with rich symbols and imagery. Graphics put your Word into powerful pictures. The design and thoughtfulness put into the very sanctuary in which we worship capture theological truths, drawing us further into your presence. Thank you for the many artistic gifts used to magnify you and stir the souls of your people in worship. Continue to move many to use their skills and abilities for such a noble and holy purpose.

For the Gift of Creativity

Most Splendid Creator,
You have made mankind so special and unique in extraordinary ways that distinguish us from the rest of your creation. Thank you for the gifts of creativity that you pour out on so many. The human mind can troubleshoot and problem-solve in ways that display marvelous ingenuity. Those who work with their hands in the trades devise time-saving hacks and creative solutions to fix and repair. Managers of the home drum up innovative ways to organize, store, and clean. Individuals with the gifts to dance and design, to sing and to sculpt, to paint and perform, all bring inspirational and expressive beauty to the arts. In these and countless other ways, Lord, may you continue to allow the crown of your creation to shine brightly as we give our creative best, magnifying you through it all.

To Boast in You Alone

Christ My Savior,
Whenever you grant me success and whatever it looks like, may my response always be the same: to boast only in you alone. All that I am and any good that comes from me is worked through you. Through the Spirit, you provide me with a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline, along with all other spiritual gifts and blessings. You build your church through Word and Sacrament, equipping your saints to be salt and light in the world. When I am inclined to think too highly of myself and take credit for your work, humble me and prompt me to praise you instead. Only your name saves, so let yours alone be the name that I magnify and exalt. You have done, still do, and will keep on doing great things for those who are yours. Let others know about it through my boasting.
