DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Delight in Holy Communion

Precious Savior,
Whether the burden of guilt I carry over my sin is heavy or light, deepen my love for the privilege of receiving the Lord’s Supper to lift that burden entirely. When I acknowledge and confess my sin in humble penitence, you invite me to remember the dear price you paid for that sin, along with its guilt and shame. In a miraculous way that defies intellect and demands faith, you bring together your body and blood with bread and wine, so that what I receive with my mouth also restores my soul. And, sharing this sacred meal with fellow believers united by the same confession of faith, conviction of sin, and confidence of forgiveness, edifies and encourages us collectively. Therefore, gather together the communion of saints regularly for Holy Communion, so that through their proclamation of your death, you refresh their spirits and rejuvenate them to faithfully carry out their Christian calling. Help me to hold this blessing close to my heart and treasure it always.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For My Home Church and Church Family

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. Thank you for the blessing of being able to worship in my home congregation. Whether away for school, traveling frequently for work, or simply being unable to attend in person for one reason or another, it is a joy to worship in our own church. We get to smile at familiar faces, share laughs, and catch up with our church family. The sanctuary itself is a sacred space, a collection of ministry milestones and memories over the years that will forever be held in our hearts. Siblings were baptized, co-workers finally confirmed, family friends joined in marriage, and saints with secret struggles were renewed by your Body and Blood to keep battling. These are all woven together to form the unique and beautiful patchwork of people who are yours – and people I am blessed to call mine, too, for they are treasures to me. Thank you for each and every one of these trophies of grace who make up my church family, and for the cherished space where we gather.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Your Strength to Sustain Me

Almighty God,
I am not interested in pretending that my own strength is sufficient to sustain me in any way. So I ask you to strengthen me with your power, according to your might. Only then will I have the ability to patiently endure. Only then will I have any hope or chance of withstanding Satan’s attacks and defending against him in spiritual warfare.

Strengthen me with your sacraments. Help me to embrace my Spirit-filled identity as victor, which you anointed me with through my baptism. Reinvigorate me through the Supper when my soul is weary and worn, and rejuvenate me through your body and blood to rejoin the spiritual battle with fresh vigor. Equip me with the weapon of your Word to fight valiantly, to persevere, and to confidently expect the victory you have already promised and won. When you alone are the only source of my strength, I know I will never fail.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Serve Others as You Serve Us

Loving Savior,
On this Holy Thursday we see your heart for service. In a beautiful act of humble service, you washed your disciples feet and called them – and us – to lovingly imitate your willing spirit to serve others. Forgive us for continuing to fall for the foolish lie that fulfillment comes from the selfish service of putting ourselves first. Open our eyes to see and believe the truth that our hearts find true fulfillment in loving and serving our neighbor.

On this night you also served not only your disciples in the upper room, but also your church for generations to come. You did this by transforming the Passover meal from just a meal of remembrance into the sacred Supper by which you serve your very body and blood for forgiveness. Still today, whenever we receive the bread and your body, the wine and your blood, you serve us the food that fortifies and fills up our faith. Serve us always, so that through your service to us, we find all that we need to also serve others.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
