DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Compassion Toward Those Experiencing Loss

God Who Cares,
Trouble and tragedy so frequently fill our news feed that we can become disinterested and desensitized. When that happens, our sense of compassion can diminish along with it. We brush over death and lives lost, lacking sympathy for those devastated by such tragic loss. Unconcerned, we don’t spend so much as a passing thought on souls and their eternity.

Forgive me for being too much in the world, but not of it in all the wrong ways. You have placed me here to grieve with those who grieve. You have uniquely shaped me to show compassion to suffering neighbors and care for saddened strangers. Lord, your heart ached for others who were hurting. Give me that same heart, always willing to pause and be present with others in their loss and grief. And, when appropriate, compel me to point them to the precious hope you provide to all who have experienced loss.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Those Struggling After Christmas

Joy of the World,
The day after Christmas can be a sad one for many. It can feel like it serves as the official mark of the holidays coming to a close. With Christmas in the rearview mirror, joy and anticipation quickly fade. No matter the cause, I pray for you to be with all who are down or struggling. The highs of the holidays can usher in difficult lows. Uplift those whose hearts are hurting or spirits are saddened. Turn their gloom to glee with good news and words of encouragement. Brighten their demeanor by fostering a grateful attitude in them, so they become aware of the many reasons they have to give thanks. Ultimately, whenever possible, I pray that you are not only enough for all people, struggling or not, but also that you become the source of their greatest joy.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Those Feeling Alone During the Holidays

Precious Savior,
While the holidays are a time of joy for many, remember those for whom this time of year may serve as a painful reminder of their loneliness or isolation. Through accident or tragedy, some family members will be looking at empty seats around the table as reminders of their loss. Many who are confined to nursing homes in the final season of their lives may feel more neglected or forgotten than normal as they witness other residents receiving visitors. Those on the inside of a jail or prison bear not only the burden of their wrongdoing, but also the hurt of not being able to be present with those who care about them.

Be there for all facing these or similar situations, and remind them that the very reason you came to earth was to be with us, and so that we can always have the promise of your presence. Let your love and care be experienced by many through the thoughtful expressions of those who take time to visit, write notes, create crafts, and all other gestures that let others know they are not forgotten and they are cared for. Allow these efforts in some way to direct those feeling lonely and overlooked to see the light of your gracious face shining on them.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Heal and Restore Broken Families

Restoring Father,
Sadly, families are not immune to the collateral damage of existing in a fallen, sinful world. I pray for your help and restoration in healing families broken by sin. Where the sin of adultery has ripped husband and wife apart, grant repentance and reconciliation to repair the marriage bond. When abuse of any kind has left family members or children devastated, intervene and bring it to an end. In those cases, also bring about justice for the one responsible and provide any necessary therapy to those harmed by it. Let those families crushed by traumatic death or injury receive counseling and support to help them process and navigate their grieving or loss. No matter what struggle or hardship any family may face, see to it that your grace is always apparent to provide healing and hope.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Have Compassion for Others

Caring Savior,
When our own personal lives are filled with so many stories of those who are struggling and suffering, we can easily become cynical. We tune out others and their problems because we have enough of our own to focus on. Over time, unchecked cynical attitudes can turn downright calloused toward others.

Keep me from that extreme. Place me back among the crowds who followed you while you walked the earth, those who chased after you with all of their hurts and needs. That way, I can see clearly what compassion and care look like when perfectly carried out. You took time for others. You met their needs. You always cared, and you still do – for others, for me, for everyone. Move me to demonstrate the same genuine care and compassion for others.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Genuine Compassion Toward Others

Compassionate Savior,
I will never be far from someone who is grieving, hurting, or in need. You even assured the disciples that they would always have the poor around them. I simply don’t have to look very hard at all to see people struggling.

This prevalence of pain that others are experiencing can cause me to become desensitized or indifferent to their plight. Because it is such a common part of the human experience to hurt or be in need, even if not intentionally, I can easily tune out the tribulations of others as I go about my daily business.

Forgive me for my self-absorption and lack of compassion. Don’t allow me to become so preoccupied with my own schedule and responsibilities that I don’t acknowledge or give thought to the distress others are experiencing. Let me follow through with my promises of prayer, not treating them like a checklist that I can complete, but as powerful petitions that can channel real change for those in need. Increase my own capacity for compassion, so that my care and concern for others might more often flow into expressions of charity.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Be Aware of the Needs of Others

Compassionate Savior,
During your time on earth, as both God and man, you were aware of the needs of others. Sometimes your omniscience revealed these needs; other times you were simply socially aware enough to pick up on when others were hurting or experiencing some degree of loss. You then responded accordingly, never too busy for others or too self-absorbed that you overlooked or ignored the needs of others.

While I want to be focused and faithful to my callings in life, never allow my concentration in one area of life to result in my inattentiveness to the needs of others. My calling to be a neighbor to others in need often opens the door to opportunities for you to be made known and glorified. Therefore, grant me the emotional intelligence to sense when others are hurting or need help. Whether the cues are subtle or plain as day, let me pick up on them, so that in whatever way possible, I may love and serve my neighbor according to his needs.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Be Aware of Those Hurting During the Holidays

Compassionate Savior,
The weeks ahead will be filled with busy activities in homes, at schools, and in the workplace. While these events are generally a source of warmth and happiness as we gather and socialize, this time of year can also be painful for many.

Memories from past painful events that took place during this time of year can resurface and dull the delight of those affected by them. Hearts are made heavy by the remembrance of loved ones who passed away during this season, no matter how long ago. Current career stress and end of the year job responsibilities can also factor into the frustration many experience.

Enable me to be aware of the hurts of others during the holidays. Grant me sensitivity to engage meaningfully with those who are struggling, so that I am able to provide them with needed support and hope. Make me a bright spot when they feel surrounded by darkness. Through my compassion, help them catch a glimpse of yours, so that they may know how much they are cared for.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
