To Keep Christ at the Center of My Faith

Holy Spirit,
The work that you do in bringing people to faith, growing them in their faith, and keeping them in their faith is all carried out in the same way: through Jesus. While all Christians will agree, not all Christians are discerning enough to be aware of how much “Christian” content lacks Christ. The Scriptures have so much to teach us about doctrine and Christian living, but never apart from Jesus. Since the Bible is a testimony about Christ, whatever media and content we consume ought to also point us to Christ. Make us aware of his absence in anything that passes itself off as Christian, and equip us to either correct it or avoid it altogether. Feed and nurture our faith by keeping our faith focused on our faithful Substitute and Savior.

For the Ongoing Pursuit of Growth

Loving Lord,
When you called me to faith, you called me to a life of growth. While our physical bodies are limited by how much they can grow before they start to decline, our faith can always grow, no matter our age or circumstances. However, this kind of spiritual growth doesn’t happen accidentally, but intentionally. It happens when we are deliberate about prioritizing your Word in our lives. And, while we may tend to think of growth happening in ideal settings and surroundings, it often happens in scenarios that are anything but. Adversity and affliction can be accelerators of growth if we let them, as those are the experiences which easily strip us of self-reliance and steer us toward our Savior. No matter what season of life we’re in, give us faith eyes that see favorable opportunities to grow closer to you.

For the Gift of Faith

Holy Spirit,
Thank you for the gift of faith – it is truly a one of a kind gift! Faith not only receives the promise of forgiveness and the assurance of my salvation, but every other spiritual gift which flows from these as well. You opened my blind eyes to see the peace I have in Jesus and raised my spiritually dead body to live my new life of joyful service in your kingdom. Thank you!

Since you not only grant this gift of faith by your grace, but also sustain it and strengthen it through the living water of your Word, lead me to maximize my faith by drinking deeply from that well. Fan my faith into flame, allowing me to shine outwardly and burn inwardly with a passionate fire that yearns to see others come to faith and grow in their faith. All of this is possible only through your work, mighty Spirit, so pour out your gifts on your people and extend Christ’s Kingdom through your limitless grace!
