For Your Grace and Guidance in this New Year

God of Grace,
On this first day of a new year, as I look ahead, I see so many unknowns. There are plans in place and events scheduled that excite and energize me when I consider them. But there will also be transitions and changes that leave me uncertain and uneasy. Remind me that you already know their outcome, and that you attach to them your promise to bring good out of everything for my benefit and blessing. Therefore, let my goals and plans for the year ahead be less about my desire to be in control and on top of everything, and more about developing my relationship with you and solidifying my trust in you. Take my faith to new heights this year, and use every part of me to honor you and build up your kingdom through my service to others. Pour into me so that I am overflowing and able to pour into others as I strive to carry out your calling for me to make disciples.

For Guidance in the Months Ahead

Holy Spirit,
As I begin a new month and the holidays are around the corner, guide me along your paths as I navigate what is ahead. Schedules will get filled and family will gather. Responsibilities may increase and work pressures may rise as the end of the year looms in the not-too-distant future. Help me to keep the main thing the main thing so that I am not overwhelmed by stress. Grant me the wisdom and foresight to plan ahead as much as possible so that I am prepared. Help me anticipate any possible curveballs I may face in life, with the understanding that I am not attempting to control everything around me, but rather seeking to avoid being caught off guard. 

Looking ahead to Thanksgiving and Christmas, shield me from secular pressure to somehow make them “more special.” Allow me to find the simple joy of the treasured blessings you offer me through them and help me direct others to do the same.

For Guidance in Decision Making

Holy Spirit,
Grant me clarity in my decision making. There are some decisions before me that carry more weight than others, and I need your guidance. Train me to look first to you and your Word for answers, for promises, and for direction in my decision making. Help me to be discerning in the advice I receive from others. Open my eyes to determine when counsel is wise and prudent, and when it is to be avoided or dismissed altogether. When my feelings cloud my judgment, equip me to manage them so they do not lead me to make poor decisions. Finally, when you do provide me with the clarity and peace of mind I am asking for, give me the confidence to move forward with my decision, to fully trust in you to bless it as you see fit, and to remember to thank you in my prayers and in my sanctified living.
