To Bless Parent/Teacher Relationships

God of Wisdom,
As students make their way back into classrooms, see that they grow this school year in wisdom and in spirit. To help facilitate their growth, please foster a healthy relationship between parents and teachers. When they are on the same page and enjoy healthy communication, students benefit greatly. Give parents the humility to accept responsibility when their children have contributed to creating undesirable learning environments or classroom settings, and make them willing to work with teachers to address any concerns or behavior. Give teachers patience, understanding, and the humility to recognize that certain situations in homes can sometimes adversely affect a student’s ability to engage or participate in learning. Provide ample support for teachers and faculty, and let parents feel heard and listened to in a way that builds trust between them. Remind parents that teachers are trained professionals who are qualified to instruct their children, and give them confidence in their ability to do so.

For Those in Prison

Ever-Present Father,
While society often overlooks those behind bars, let those in prison know that you, Lord, never do. When we pray for justice to be carried out, it means that those who commit crimes will face consequences for their actions. When those consequences include jail time, steer them away from violence and cruelty toward others. Meet their physical needs, protecting them from harm and danger. Make known to them that they are not forgotten or rejected by you. Whether they are people of faith or not, lead them to seek you out so that they may know the One whose arms are always open to welcome the wayward and the lost. Maximize their time in prison by providing many opportunities to be in your Word and grow in faith. Your Word reveals that you specialize in transforming guilty sinners into saved saints to carry out your service. Therefore, let your grace continue to set prisoners spiritually free, so that they may enjoy life to the full and eagerly serve you in your kingdom when you grant their physical freedom.

For Godparents to Be a Blessing to Their Godchildren

Lord of the Church,
Godly godparents may be some of the most under-appreciated gifts you give believers. Christian parents may not always take advantage of the blessed tradition of choosing godparents, or they may not give much prayerful deliberation to their choice if they do. Godparents, too, may overlook or neglect their important roles. Nevertheless, guide your church to retain this practice, to expand its awareness, and to heighten its importance. Your little baptized saints growing up in the world today are in as much need of prayer and spiritual care as ever. Place godchildren on the hearts of their godparents regularly. Direct them to your throne of grace on their behalf, and lead them to welcome and embrace the role of helping disciple their godchildren in every way possible.

To Apply Sunday’s Word During the Week

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. When we have the opportunity to receive your Word, we want it to bear fruit in our lives. So then, as your people depart worship this morning and every Sunday, keep your message from simply going in one ear and out the other. Do not allow Sunday morning to be a spiritual one-and-done for your people. Instead, fix their thoughts throughout the week on the message they received, keeping Jesus as their central focus each day. Move them to discuss your truths with others and seek ways to apply them to their lives. Create in your people a curiosity to dig deeper and search the Scriptures for further enlightenment. Having tasted that your Word is good, lead your church to hunger for more every day, all week long, and satisfy their hunger as only you can.

To Prioritize Spiritual Health in Marriage

Caring Savior,
In marriage, your intent for husband and wife is not only to bring them together physically and emotionally, but also spiritually. In fact, when they share a deep spiritual bond together with you, it sets the tone for all other aspects of their relationship. While it isn’t uncommon for spouses to feel frustrated when it comes to challenges regarding sexual or emotional intimacy, they often fail to see how much the role of spiritual intimacy plays into it. If we are not close to you, we often lack the tools necessary to cultivate deeper intimacy with each other. Understanding, patience, compassion, care, grace, selflessness – such qualities are not naturally found or fostered within us, but rather find their source in you. Therefore, help husbands and wives make their time together with you their priority. Then, as you work grace and forgiveness in them through your Word, you also equip them with what is needed to lovingly, selflessly put spouse before self, just as you, Lord, did with us.

To Embrace Summer

Gracious Lord,
As the summer months officially begin, open my eyes to both the opportunities and the obstacles. Even a slightly different work, school, or social schedule during the summer can mean new or additional openings in my day for focused learning, exploring hobbies, expanding skills, or discovering new interests. Vacation and travel plans open doors to unique experiences and meeting new people. Thank you for these and so many other opportunities.

At the same time, getting out of the daily structure and routine can also throw off healthy habits. Exercise and workouts can fall by the wayside as a result. Regular worship and time in your Word can slip into inconsistency. When sleep patterns are thrown off, our days are often affected. Keep me alert to these challenges so that I remain resilient throughout any changes, and can welcome and embrace all that summer offers.

For Those Graduating

God of Wisdom,
Bless the many graduates who are closing out another chapter of their education. Whether they are entering high school, college, pursuing additional degrees, or joining the workforce, may their last level of learning serve them well in the next phase of life. Thank you for the dedication and hard work they put into their studies. Thank you for all of the wise and patient professors, teachers, counselors, and parents who poured into them. Thank you for what you have in store for them in the future. As this stage of their learning gives way to the next, ensure that they never graduate from learning and growing in faith, the most important education there is.

For the Courage to Correct When Necessary

Spirit of Truth,
Give me the courage to speak up to brothers in the faith who need to be called out or rebuked for one reason or another. Whether they are stuck in sin, settling for worldly satisfactions, or lacking the desire or discipline to pursue you more deeply and faithfully, make me bold to speak up. When I am ready to say something, ensure that my heart and my attitude are grounded in pure motives and a longing for what is best for my brother(s). Break down any barriers that would hinder others from listening to correction, and use these challenging situations to foster healthy spiritual growth all around. And, when others have the courage to correct or admonish me when I need it, quiet my own stubborn spirit so that I receive it properly and take it to heart. Cause me to be grateful that you have placed godly, mature Christian men in my life who care enough to correct me.

To Work on My Weaknesses While Also Embracing Them

Sanctifying Spirit,
You bless us with unique talents and abilities, and have created us to be strong-suited in certain areas of life. Thank you for the unique ways you enable us to use our gifts to serve and contribute meaningfully. Just as each of us has strengths, we are also aware of our weaknesses. In those areas of weakness in which we can grow, give us the drive to do so, since our lives in Christ compel us to give our best as we focus on growth and personal development over the course of our lives. Give us a healthy desire for improvement, without crossing the line into perfectionism. Help us also see the blessings of weaknesses, for when we are weak, we are reminded that you are strong. Being aware of my weaknesses helps sustain my humility, which in turn leads me to lean even more on you for strength. So, while I work to grow and develop where I am weak, balance that effort in me with a deeper appreciation for all the ways you generously provide wherever and whatever I am lacking.

For Growth Through Hardship

Loving Father,
When adversity and strife show up, you promise to work good in my life through them. Help me to believe this, especially whenever doubts creep in and I begin to question it. Sometimes you use these challenges to draw me into a deeper trust in you, and other times to correct or admonish, but the goal is always to draw me closer to you. I am grateful that you can turn these seasons of hardship into growth opportunities. Strengthen me to embrace them as such, and provide me with the endurance necessary to ride them out. Though I may not always be able to welcome such strife with the joyful outlook you call me to have when in the thick of it, change my perspective by letting my eyes of faith consider the good on the other side of it that you could be working through it.
