DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Reply to Others With Gentleness

Gentle Savior,
Help me remain in control of how I respond to others. Just because our society has normalized rage-filled responses any time a person is set off doesn’t mean you permit it. Instead, let our responses be filled with gentleness and self-control. Forgive us for knowingly and intentionally allowing ourselves to be drawn into divisive dialogues that will feed our sinful desire to quarrel and fight. Guard our hearts from such temptations and grant us wisdom to avoid the allure of arguing. If my conversations are always to be seasoned with salt, dear Lord, give me the discipline to be slow to respond. Doing so will not only allow me time to carefully choose the words I use, but also to consider how my response could be taken by others. Finally, give me the discernment to know when it’s wise to avoid providing a response that I may regret, and the humility to realize that my opinion is not so valuable that I need to express it about everything going on around me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Patience and Gentleness When Sharing Your Word

Wonderful Counselor,
When we feel confident enough in our knowledge of Scripture to share it, grant us also an accompanying spirit of patience and gentleness. Whether some just take longer to understand the wonders of your Word, or others are deliberately being difficult, becoming irritated or abrasive in return does not serve the gospel well, nor does it reflect well on you. Instead, make us winsome with others, willing to give them our time and attention as they think and reflect on what we share. Place thoughtful follow-up questions on our lips and lead us to listen carefully in response. Through our patient dialogue and clarity of Scripture, let your Spirit stir their spirit and awaken their hearts to the trustworthy and true promises of your Word.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Fruit of the Spirit: Gentleness

Holy Spirit,
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Gentleness is not typically a characteristic which our society associates with men, which makes it all the more noticeable when it is evident. Since gentleness is evidence of your work, Holy Spirit, and a fruit you desire to see in Christians, please grant me more of it. In past situations when aggression or forcefulness took over within me, have mercy on me. When I have been harsh with others, forgive me. Help me see that gentleness is not associated with weakness, but is instead a godly characteristic by which you set your people apart. Let your gentleness be evident in me whenever I interact with others. May others view me as approachable and caring because of it. Use my gentleness as yet another gateway to open up more opportunities to humbly serve my neighbor.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
