For Focus

Dear Lord,
As technology continues to advance exponentially and the world moves at an increased pace, our ability to remain focused has suffered tremendously. Tools and tech that are supposed to save us time end up deceiving us into thinking we can take on more and get more done. We are tethered to devices that are designed to distract us. We are acquainted with more people than ever, which also makes us aware of more problems and troubles than ever. 

Help us, Lord. First, lead us to set time with you as our non-negotiable priority. Then, provide us with clarity, discernment, and direction, so that we are empowered to take control of our schedules and days. Finally, fix our attention on the things that we have determined matter most, and keep us focused on each responsibility we take on. Let us be present when we are with people and aid us in concentrating whenever a task is before us. In these ways, Lord, equip us to give our best fully to you and others.

For Those Wrestling With a Difficult Decision

Lord God,
Help those who have been wrestling with a difficult decision. There is much wisdom in taking the time to thoroughly think through possibilities and seek the counsel of others. Use your Word to guide them with your insights and perfect promises. Compel them to ask thoughtful questions regarding their decision, and grant them clarity as they pursue the answers. Finally, when they have arrived at the time when the decision is required of them, bless them with peace of mind and confidence in their decision. Let their confidence rest less in the certainty that they made the right decision, and more in the certainty that you are surely able to bring good out of whatever they decide, just as you promise to do for your people.

For Strong Followers

Humble Savior,
I know the importance of praying for leaders, but I often overlook the blessing of solid, strong followers. Thank you for those who have the humility to follow others in leadership. Use them to uplift and uphold leaders through their encouragement and validation. Give followers the ability to ask good questions of their leaders that challenge them without being abrasive or disrespectful. Make them willing to carry out the necessary work as directed by those in charge, even when that work is difficult or unpleasant. Prompt them to pray for their leaders, speak kindly of them and to them, and in every possible way, show their love and support so that the labor of leaders is a joy and delight.

To Distinguish Between What’s Interesting and What’s Important

Santifying Spirit,
Our days are filled with choices to make. Possibilities are endless. Without your guidance and direction, we pursue far too much that offers little more than entertainment value, not truly serving you, others, or ourselves in any meaningful way. Grant us the discernment to differentiate what is interesting and what is important. We are easily deceived into believing something is important simply because we’re interested in it. But when you enlighten us to compare what you consider important with what we consider important, the differences become glaringly obvious. Then, when we see the differences, give us the discipline to pursue more God things than just good things.

For Peace of Mind

Loving Savior,
There is no Sometimes I feel like my life is a rudderless ship at sea, directionless and at the mercy of the elements around me. The demands of others on my time, the needs of my family, work obligations, and a general lack of direction in life leave me wondering if I’m doing something wrong. I get overwhelmed by not even knowing where to begin to make any changes or progress. On top of that, everyone around me seems to have their lives in order while mine is a chaotic mess.

Grant me, Lord, the peace and calm that come from taking a deep spiritual breath and remembering that my identity and station in life all flow from my faith in you. Remind me that, while I’m never really in control anyway, you are, and that’s enough for me. You know my needs better than I do, and promise to act in my best interest. Give me your servant heart, and simply provide me with the energy and zeal to work faithfully in carrying out the roles and responsibilities you’ve graciously entrusted to me.
