For More Persistence in My Prayer Life

Lord Jesus,
Help me be more persistent in my prayers. I ask this both for my prayer life in general and regarding specific prayers. You were deliberate about carving out time in your busy ministry for speaking to our Father in prayer. Shift my attitude about prayer so that, rather than squeezing in prayers here and there when I randomly think of it, I instead order my schedule around set times for prayer. And when I pray specific prayers, prompt me to revisit those same prayers until our Father’s answer is clear. After all, you repeated the same prayer three times in Gethsemane before giving your life for us. Let my persistent prayer life reflect the worth I attach to the magnitude of your sacrifice for me, which earned for me the privilege of prayer in the first place.

For Determination

Dedicated Savior,
Although you faced opposition and obstacles from both your enemies and those close to you during your life, nothing deterred you from carrying out your goal of securing our salvation. You were resolute. You were determined.

So often, we are not. When we encounter a challenge while trying to accomplish something, we get frustrated and give up. When the goal we set out to achieve is much harder to reach than we anticipated, we change our mind. The support we counted on suddenly isn’t there anymore, and we blame others for when we fail to see something through to the end. Give us your determination and resolve. Make us confident that you are able to reward our perseverance. Help us finish strong, grant us the satisfaction of getting things done, and let our efforts be a blessing to others. 

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

For a Deeper Commitment to You

Committed Savior,
When I consider the level of determination and commitment you demonstrated in carrying out my salvation, not only am I stunned and amazed, but it also causes gratitude to well up inside me. I simply will never be able to grasp the measure of your undeserved love, that you should go to such great lengths for me!

Reflecting on your commitment to me also has another positive effect: it drives me to want to increase my commitment to you in return. Help me to do exactly what you encourage in your Word as I run my race and throw off everything that hinders and entangles me. Those things don’t just slow me down – they are also vying for my focus and attention. Such distractions then also end up watering down my commitment to you, because I am spread too thin with all my concerns. Grant me singular focus, so that my commitment to you diminishes other distractions, and I follow in your footsteps more closely in all areas of my life.
