To Appreciate Your Blessings in Moderation

Caring Father,
You have blessed us with so many good things, and for that we will always be grateful. Nevertheless, because our sinful nature is so susceptible to developing unhealthy connections with your blessings, we need your help. Lead me, Lord, to strive for moderation in all things. I can enjoy good food without gorging. I can limit myself to watching one episode at a time. A single new clothing item can bring joy without purchasing a whole new wardrobe. I can do without buying the unnecessary extra thing just to get free shipping. Grant me a content heart and the self-discipline to admire without having to acquire. Make excess the exception and satisfy me with what is sufficient. Help me honor you with a life of moderation.

For the Satisfaction of Projects Done Well

Loving Lord,
While the work required to carry out assignments or projects can feel frustrating and futile at times, there is a sense of satisfaction in bringing something to completion and finishing well. Thank you for the skills and abilities you give us to be able to take on such tasks, and the determination to see them through. While our intent behind such efforts is not to seek the approval of others, we nevertheless enjoy it when others acknowledge our work or take the time to express their appreciation. Thank you for those who do. Lead us always to give our full effort regardless, as if whatever we’re working on, we’re doing so for you. As we look back on the things we’ve accomplished, give us a healthy pride, not based on how others respond to what we’ve done, but based on knowing we gave it – and you – our best.

For Gratitude and Contentment

Giving God,
Every day we are enticed to purchase and consume. No matter how much we accumulate, there is always more. Spending has never been as easy or convenient as it is in our present age, and it is normalized by everyone all around us. Help me go against the grain, Lord, by filling me with a spirit of contentment. Let me find joy in admiring the world’s wares and the belongings of others without feeling the need to personally possess them. Renew my appreciation for all that is already mine, and allow me to find satisfaction in putting it to good use and in taking care of it. Counter my consumer spirit with a genuine desire to value people and experiences over shopping and spending. Grant me a glad and grateful heart, resulting in thankfulness for all that I have, rather than resentment by focusing on what I lack. After all, I have you; therefore, I have all that I truly need.

Thank You for Your Dedication to Our Salvation

Giving Father,
Thank you for all that you graciously provide for our lives, none of which is deserved or earned by our efforts. While this is true of all gifts we receive from your hand, the gift of salvation and the guarantee of eternal life that come with it are unrivaled. These exceptional gifts stand out all the more when we remember what we deserve and ought to expect as a result of our own rebellious hearts and sinful disobedience. But your grace is always greater than whatever our worst could ever be. Your determination and dedication to seek and save are relentless, and we are so very grateful for that. Let your desire to forgive and to save us always prompt our desire to thank and to praise you.

Thank You for Allowing Us to Give Thanks

Giving Father,
Thank you for creating us so uniquely that we are able to express thanks to you. While the biological diversity and sheer quantity of all of creation is already beyond our comprehension, mankind stands alone in the ways by which we’re able to give you thanks. For not only enabling us to give thanks, but also for the awareness of all of the reasons for which we can give it, thank you.

Moreover, when our hearts and lives are marked by gratitude, we also reap the benefits! Thankfulness contributes to so many different positive benefits for us, spiritually, emotionally, and even physically. So not only do we have the privilege of being able to thank you, but you also bless us when we do! The degree of your goodness and generosity is truly staggering, leaving us in awe and compelling us to thank you in every way possible with our whole lives. Thank you!
