DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Keep My Evangelism Efforts Simple

Lord God,
When I am stuck or don’t know where to start in my witnessing efforts, keep me from overthinking it. Help me to keep it simple by always being curious. Every conversation is an open door to ask questions. Give me a genuine desire to be more interested in others than being interesting to others. Open my ears to listen for openings to ask thoughtful questions, then keep my ears open to stay focused on listening to the answers. In doing so, lay out clear paths to bring you into the conversation in ways that speak to the hearts of others. May these approaches lead to ongoing conversations in the future, providing your Spirit with as much time as necessary for my words and your Word to accomplish their saving purposes.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Be Proactive in My Evangelism Efforts

Zealous Savior,
You call me to always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks me to give the reason for the hope that I have (1 Peter 3:15). Indeed, I do want to be ready when such situations arise. But I also pray that you push me to be very deliberate in my witnessing efforts. As much as I want to be well-equipped and qualified to offer thoughtful responses about you and my faith in you when others have questions, stretch me to be more proactive. Help me identify openings in conversations that provide opportune times to bring you into the story. Let my faith flatten my fears and prompt me to be your bold ambassador. Protect me from my own passivity and generate in me a burning desire to evangelize and carry on the mantle of mission work that so many believers have faithfully fulfilled before me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Joy of My Salvation to Prompt My Witnessing

Light of the World,
Today is known in the Church as the Festival of the Epiphany, sometimes referred to less formally as “Gentile Christmas.” Whatever label we attach to it, what we are celebrating is the revelation that you are the Savior of the whole world. During the season of Epiphany, as we follow your ministry from the beginning, we see highlights that clearly make known for us who you are and why you came.

If I am going to bear witness to your work of salvation for all people, it starts with firmly embracing this most profound truth: you are my Savior. Keep this joyful truth always before me, so that it serves as the lens through which I view everything else in life. That joy, that you are mine and I am yours because of your saving work, stirs my soul and spirit, filling me with the desire and drive to make you known to others. I want to be your witness, so spur me on in that work with ongoing reminders of the joy I live in because you are my Savior.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Raise Up Future Pastors

Holy Father,
Sundays are sacred. You richly bless your church by providing men to preach and teach the Word of God. Thank you for their commitment to ministry and their faithful sermon work and preparation for worship each week. Since pastors play such an integral role in making disciples, I pray that you continue to raise up young men to pursue the pastoral ministry.

Use me to be a part of that. Help me to identify young men with the qualifications and gifts that would be suitable for future pastors. Fill me with words of encouragement to pass along to them, and use those words to plant seeds of interest in their minds. Provide meaningful experiences for them in our congregations to give them a taste of how rewarding ministry can be. Keep their names on my heart so that they may remain in my prayers and I remember to engage and interact with them regularly. The harvest is plenty, but the workers are few, so raise up many future pastors to help gather the harvest, and use my influence and encouragement in any way possible to nurture them along.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Bless My Friendships

Friend of Sinners,
I thank you for knowing me and for making yourself known to me. Not only are you my Savior and my God, but you also call yourself my Friend. As such, you are always available to me. You are concerned with my well-being and genuinely desire to spend time together. You speak to me through your Word and listen to my prayers. You are there for me.

Bless the friendships that I have with others in the same way. Thank you for those who have time for me and always seem to make time for me when I especially need it. Let me also make time for them in the same way. Thank you for providing others to listen and talk certain things through when I need it. Let me also do the same for others. Thank you for shared interests and rich experiences that provide outlets for leisure and enjoyment. Provide me with friends who highly regard their faith. But, also open doors to future friendships with those who don’t yet know you, but may eventually come to as a result of our friendship. When I consider the qualities of friendship that I value and desire, help me also exhibit those qualities myself. Help me to be the friend to others that I want to see in others.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Focus

Faithful Lord,
The holidays bring a change of pace when it comes to plans and schedules. This can require paying attention to a number of responsibilities that are out of the norm. As I settle into the new year and return to my normal routine, I ask you to help me refocus. Help me to be present and engaged with what is in front of me, not overthinking recent events or being distracted by things to come. When I am at work, let me stay dialed in diligently to my work responsibilities. When I am home, let me enjoy my downtime and focused family time where applicable, but also keep me on top of my life responsibilities that require managing. Help me identify and eliminate distractions that rob me of my focus, so that I can give myself fully and faithfully to whatever is before me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

When Terror Strikes

Mighty God,
When events like the recent killings in New Orleans take place, they are sober reminders that our fallen world is a far cry from your original holy creation. The minds of wicked men are both capable of plotting heinous crimes against others, and willing to carry them out. We mourn the lives that were lost as a result of this hideous attack, and grieve with affected family members and friends at their tragic loss. Bring them comfort and ease their hurt and their heavy hearts. We also thank you for the lives that were spared and for the dedicated, focused work carried out by law enforcement and first responders to keep the death toll from having been much higher. When events like this unfold, direct us to both the manger and the cross, as reminders that you came to being peace in the midst of this kind of chaos. Use this event to lead others to seek you out, and provide them answers through your Word that will serve them both here and now, and into eternity.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Grow This Year

Gracious God,
As I begin a new year, I do so with the confidence that your presence and your peace go with me. No matter what experiences or encounters wait for me in the year ahead, none of them will overwhelm or overcome me with you by my side. Though we will face troubles, you assure us that you have overcome the world on our behalf.

Grant me growth in my faith over the course of the new year. Let my priorities and commitments, together with my management of your gift of time, reflect my desire to develop more as your disciple. Anything that matters in life hinges on my relationship with you, and you promise that when I seek you and your righteousness before everything else, you will take care of everything else. Stretch and strengthen my trust in you this year and keep your kingdom and its success continually on my heart and mind. Let your grace abound in me and yield abundant fruit through me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Your Gift of Time This Past Year

Eternal Father,
Although you created time, you have no beginning and no end. Our lives on earth, however, are governed by time, by beginnings and endings. Today, another year of my life comes to a close. This transition at the close of one year and the start of another provides me with the opportunity to reflect. I look back and consider how I used the 365 days you gave me as a gift this past year. I also look back and see how good you’ve been to me over that same span.

I am sorry for the many times I treated your gift of time like an endless commodity, wasting it on what is worthless or selfish. I thank you for the times you used me in the past year to be an answer to the prayers of others, to serve those who needed help, and to bless and build up believers. Thank you also for the time many others have committed to helping and serving me over the past year. Look on them with your favor. As this year concludes, I thank you for never leaving me or forsaking me, for guiding me through all troubles, and for faithfully and vigilantly watching over me.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For My Perfect Substitute

Perfect Substitute,
We celebrate your birth at Christmas not only because you were born to suffer and die as payment for our sins, but also to live in perfect obedience to provide our righteousness. The holiness you demand of me is so far beyond my reach that I could never attain it on my own. But you did. For me.

Therefore, free from the burden of needing to secure perfection on my own, I can seek to follow in your path of righteousness not out of fear, but out of gratitude. As I strive for obedience, let it be motivated by love. As I strive to love others, including my enemies, let it be spurred on by your love for me. As I strive to follow through with my responsibilities and commitments, let it be inspired by your own resolute dedication. May my awareness and appreciation of your life of obedience as my perfect Substitute heighten my joy this Christmas season.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
