DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Jesus’ Ascension

Ascended Savior,
On this day of Ascension, forty days after we celebrated your resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday, we remember and rejoice that you returned to your heavenly throne. You did not abandon your Church, but rather returned to rule over all things on her behalf. You oversee world events so that disaster and catastrophe must bend to your will to serve the good of your people. You utilize even the persecution of your people to build your Church into a magnificent temple of living stones, with you yourself as the Living Cornerstone. From your seat in heaven, you direct and govern the affairs of your Church, using her to bless and save many in this fallen and lost world. Keep the body of the Church faithful to you, its Head, by standing with steadfast hearts and ironclad wills on your Word that endures forever.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For All Those Serving in Your Church

Lord of the Church,
We are grateful for every soul who serves in the church. Thank you for the thorough theological and ministerial training our called workers have received. Let their leadership gifts serve to guide congregational ministry while also equipping others to lead. Thank you for dedicated lay leaders who willingly use their gifts and give of their time in ministry, offering up a pleasing sacrifice to you through their ministry. Thank you for those in the church who voluntarily tend to the daily needs of their congregations, honoring and glorifying you with their talents and abilities and serving their brothers and sisters in Christ. Bless called workers, lay leaders, and all willing volunteers with a harmonious spirit and the guidance of your Spirit to empower their congregations to faithfully sow the seed of your Word. Grant them joy and satisfaction in their work, and fulfill them with the privilege of giving themselves fully to you in their service. Strengthen our congregations and the whole body of Christ as each part eagerly excels at its work.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Elderly in Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. You gather people of all ages and every generation to breathe life into them through your Word. While everyone deals with different hindrances that could keep them away from worship, the elderly face challenges unique to their stage in life. Good sleep isn’t always a given, medications can have troubling side effects, and physical decline can slow everything down and result in frustrating limitations. When we consider all of these hurdles, we ought to beam with joy every time older believers faithfully fill a seat in your house. Continue to give them the strength and resilience to overcome their challenges and use them to encourage and model faith in action for younger generations by how they prioritize worship. Reward their time in worship with the treasures of Word and Sacrament, and let congregations show great honor and respect to these gifts to your church.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Expose Error and Restore Truth

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. We rejoice that there are so many places of worship for believers to gather and be fed by your Word. However, we also know that not all of them stand faithfully on the Bible. Whether a church deviates from Scripture a lot or a little, no amount of false teaching is insignificant and always causes damage to souls. Bring rebuke and correction wherever they are needed, so that your people are not led astray, and the message of the gospel is not compromised. Equip your people with the discernment to identify false teaching and empower them to speak up when they become aware of it. Expose error and restore the truth so that your church continues to stand on the solid foundation of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, revealed in Scripture alone.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Focused Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. Nevertheless, they can also be filled with distractions. On their own, such distractions would pose difficult enough challenges for us, but when coupled with our short attention span and inability to focus, worship requires work! Minimize distractions for us while also sharpening our focus and attention. Let the texts of our songs and hymns touch our hearts. When the Word of God is read and preached, enable us to dial in with both our ears and our minds, giving thought to what you are revealing to us. Draw us into a deeper dialogue with you when praying. Make us mindful of the gifts we bring as offerings to you. Take hold of our hearts this morning in worship, and fill them richly with your divine grace and blessing.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Continued Joy of Easter Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred, and none more so than Easter worship last Sunday. And, just as with other milestone events and holiday highs, sometimes we feel the emotional swing of letdown in the days or weeks that follow. Let it not be so with Easter! The Resurrection isn’t a one-and-done, but an ongoing, eternal reality for us. The tomb is still empty. Jesus still lives, and always will, and so will we. Lead your faithful followers back to fill up churches again this week, to still listen with wonder as the blessings of the Resurrection keep unfolding in Scripture, and to sing aloud the Easter hymns with all the exuberant joy of Easter Sunday.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Christ to Be Exalted Through Places of Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. When believers gather in church for worship, they experience so much that points to Jesus. The means of grace – the gospel in Word and the sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism – will always remain front and center. But do not let the richness of liturgical worship or the design and details of the worship space be lost on worshippers, either. Bible stories stained in glass help us fix our thoughts on Jesus. The placement of the baptismal font reassures us that we belong to your family through baptism. The cross and the altar lead us to recall your precious sacrifice for our sins. Christian symbols on display help cement Christian doctrine and teaching. May churches always give thought to the rich variety of ways Christ is proclaimed, and may worshippers always be edified and drawn closer to their Savior through them.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Humbly Receive Your Mercy and Grace

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. When we gather in your presence for worship, we don’t do so to display our own righteousness, but to be reminded that by faith we have received yours. We don’t come before you to prove our worth, but to rejoice that you are our worthiness.

We approach you as beggars, humbly extending our hands to receive your mercy and grace. And you do not disappoint! You fill us up with good things – spiritual things, eternal things, priceless things – all of which sustain us daily and enrich and equip us as your ambassadors to the world. Rejuvenate and revitalize your people through Word and worship today. Draw them close to you and make them zealous to do your will.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Rekindle Our Love of Worship

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. Nevertheless, it’s easy for us to approach worship with ho-hum hearts. We see the same people, sing the same songs, pray the same prayers, and hear the same Scriptures. We see it all as so monotonous and mundane.

Forgive us! How shallow we are for ever giving your Word such shabby treatment. Have mercy on us! How wrong we are to shortchange your sacraments by viewing them as nothing more than a lengthy add-on to the service.

Rekindle in us the love of worship. Draw us to delight in being in your presence. Let our ears and our hearts perk up when your Word is read, and move our mouths to joyfully sing songs of praise. May we glorify you in a worthy manner with our worship, even as you edify and feed us through it.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Hear and Do

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. My prayer today for worship is that I do not merely hear your Word, but that I also consider how to put it into practice. You provide so much guidance and direction for my life, as well as countless powerful promises. Yet, as powerful as your Word is, when I allow it to merely go in one ear and out the other, without applying it in my life, I am testing more than I am trusting. Build up my trust by spurring me on toward action with your gracious promises this week. Let your Word flourish in and through me as I strive not just to hear, but also to do.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
