DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Bless Married Men

Lord of Love,
Married men face unique challenges. In marriage, they have committed to living sacrificially for their wives, multiplying their obligations. Marriage also means setting aside or compromising many of their own personal preferences and interests. When you bless them to be fathers, their responsibilities increase even more. Keep them from becoming overwhelmed in their vocations as husbands and fathers, while also guarding them from securing their identities through these roles. When they envy single men, hold out before them the rich blessings you extend to them through their families. Keep them faithful to their wives and families. Let every husband’s passion and desire be directed to his wife alone, and bless that devotion with sexual satisfaction and fulfillment in her alone. Equip husbands by your Spirit to be the spiritual leaders in their homes. Raise up their wives to fill them with love and support, so that they are able to carry out their God-given roles, bringing glory to you as they serve their families.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Bless Single Men

Lord God,
Single men face unique challenges. When they feel the social pressure to be dating or in pursuit of a girlfriend, relieve that pressure by granting them a spirit of contentment with their current station in life. Assure them that they are not somehow incomplete or inferior in comparison to others who are married or dating. If they struggle with insecurities, direct their attention away from themselves to you, where they truly find all that they need. Diminish the urges of temptation in their lives by creating in them the godly desire to pursue your righteousness and deepen their faith. Fulfill them in their vocations and satisfy them with work faithfully and well done. Let them know their contributions at work, in your church, and in their communities are appreciated. Bless them with hobbies and interests that provide rejuvenation and relaxation. Remind them that because of Christ, their lives have meaning and that they matter greatly to you.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Be Eager To Be Me

Gracious Lord,
Comparison has been called the thief of joy – and with good reason! When I cannot avoid focusing on the status or gifts and abilities of others, and I end up feeling inferior, I lack appreciation and gratitude for my own lot in life. As a result, my ambition and drive dwindle, and I struggle to accomplish anything while falling into a funk.

Instead of comparing myself to others, lead me to rejoice in the unique and varied ways you have made all people. Move me to celebrate the gifts and abilities of others and be thankful for them. Give me the ongoing desire to develop my own gifts, and to operate on the basis of my personal strengths, finding satisfaction and fulfillment in who you have made me to be. Keep me from holding back, and let me give myself fully to you and to others.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Gift of Life

Dear Jesus,
The gift is not like the trespass. Because of the trespass of one man, Adam, death reigned. It ruled without mercy, unchallenged. All sinners were helpless to address their fate. Then you came, Lord, and dethroned death! By your sinless life, your sacrificial death, and your death-defying resurrection, you brought life. Truly, the gift is not like the trespass! Where faith in you is present, death no longer calls the shots, but must submit to the eternal life that is your gift of grace to all who believe. Thank you for the grace that makes this gift mine.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For No Fear of Condemnation

Dear Jesus,
The gift is not like the trespass. The judgment resulting from the trespass is condemnation, while the judgment following the gift is acquittal. We rejoice, Lord, for the gift of your grace means no fear of condemnation! Though I am guilty of sin, you do not count it against me. Though I earned condemnation, your gift is justification. As a result of your sacrifice, all sin – including my sin – has been paid for in full, meaning there is no substance to the empty accusations of the evil one. The eternal death sentence of Adam’s trespass has been undone by the gift of your grace. How true it is that the gift is not like the trespass!

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Make the Gift Known

Dear Jesus,
The gift is not like the trespass. Through Adam’s act of disobedience in the garden, death came into the world. However, through you, Jesus, the gift of grace overflowed. In Adam, we all die. In Christ, we live. While the result of Adam’s trespass – death – directly affects all people, whether they know why or not, Jesus’ gift of grace has to be made known, for it can only be received by faith. Truly, the gift is nothing like the trespass! Let my mouth speak to others of this gift of grace so that death is not the end of their story.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Humbly Receive Your Mercy and Grace

Heavenly Father,
Sundays are sacred. When we gather in your presence for worship, we don’t do so to display our own righteousness, but to be reminded that by faith we have received yours. We don’t come before you to prove our worth, but to rejoice that you are our worthiness.

We approach you as beggars, humbly extending our hands to receive your mercy and grace. And you do not disappoint! You fill us up with good things – spiritual things, eternal things, priceless things – all of which sustain us daily and enrich and equip us as your ambassadors to the world. Rejuvenate and revitalize your people through Word and worship today. Draw them close to you and make them zealous to do your will.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For Compassion Toward Those Experiencing Loss

God Who Cares,
Trouble and tragedy so frequently fill our news feed that we can become disinterested and desensitized. When that happens, our sense of compassion can diminish along with it. We brush over death and lives lost, lacking sympathy for those devastated by such tragic loss. Unconcerned, we don’t spend so much as a passing thought on souls and their eternity.

Forgive me for being too much in the world, but not of it in all the wrong ways. You have placed me here to grieve with those who grieve. You have uniquely shaped me to show compassion to suffering neighbors and care for saddened strangers. Lord, your heart ached for others who were hurting. Give me that same heart, always willing to pause and be present with others in their loss and grief. And, when appropriate, compel me to point them to the precious hope you provide to all who have experienced loss.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

To Help Others Bear Their Burdens

Strong Savior,
Make me more aware today of the burdens others are bearing. Then, rather than dismissing their hardships in light of my own problems, keep my attention on them and prompt me to consider and pray about how I might address their difficulties, or at least help bear them. While we aren’t always able to fix people’s problems, sometimes just acknowledging them and helping carry them goes a long way. It is a blessing for others simply not to have to struggle alone. Though their burdens may be heavy, use my willingness to share the yoke as a reminder that you are the perfect burden bearer, who assures us that we never endure hardships alone.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

DAILY PRAYERS FOR GUYS

For the Confidence to Have the Difficult Conversation

Dear Jesus,
Today I pray for the courage to finally have a difficult conversation I’ve been avoiding for too long. I’ve played out how the conversation could go so many times in my mind, and I’ve allowed my fear of the possible outcome to paralyze and prevent me from actually initiating it. I know avoiding it is not the solution; it only prolongs the burdensome weight of unnecessarily carrying the extra emotional baggage around. Give me a spirit of self-discipline to lay out the steps necessary to finally have this conversation, and the humble confidence to patiently, lovingly carry it out. Guide me to trust you to provide the words I need, give me grace in speaking them, and grant that what I say is heard and received in a healthy way and with understanding.

In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
